PHOTOGRAPHERS STATEMENT.
PHOTOGRAPHERS STATEMENT."Sometimes nature is so sublime in days I hardly remember". Vincent Van Gogh.Regarding the Photographic Work. This set of work took four years to complete - 2006 - 2010.I am excited about this set of photographic work and to rethink the entire regard for photography as an art. Photography as an art is drawn into an argument with the world; unable to produce interior/subjective expressions, or create true 'abstraction' that are bound up in the nature of abstract art: self- representationalism. In this set of photographic work I approach painting and photography as indistinguishable. Rock, water, light, shadow and colour, gravity 'paint my work', within a thousand of a second. The print is its own reality, with no reference to anything other than the art of the camera, and our thoughts and feelings. The Water Abstract SetWhen the rains came in 2006/7 winter it rained record flood levels and the sense of one world changing through the disappearing elements of nature to make another, emphasized to me that nature is an eternal illusion.I am compelled to believe that this set of photographs is as it should be, inperceptable to us, exclusively revealed by the quick eye of the camera. This is not how nature appears to us and by that fact is 'abstracted' by the camera. The camera is a machine that gives us insight into the world around us and should be regarded as metaphysical. Also we may, 'see things' in the work, it is our subconcious that is working, allowing the images into our imagination. It is as the world appears through the fast eye of the camera, fantastic, surreal, and beautiful.CREATION THEME.Through the Fire of meteoric accretions of the stars came the Rock and the Waters to make the Planet Earth and its Oceans. The Rock and the Waters in perpetual opposition combined in their struggle by the laws of gravity and planetary evolution to begin life. Be it so that bacteria was delivered to Earth in this process, or life evloved in the chemical soup is still a matter of science to discover. The effects of this primordial soup produced oxygen & chlorine in the atmosphere; yellows from sulpher laden under burdens, green from these simple organisms, reds and other colors became possible as the planet changed. Ferns were one of the first plants to migrate from the waters onto the land masses and to use spores for repopulation. It wold be the Grasses dominated the land mass to await humanity to discover wild Barley, probably by a female gatherer, so the dawn of civilization could begin. It freed humanity, enabling the arts, geometry and mathematics, over eons becoming architecture and the Kingdom of Stone.HASSELBALD WORLD WIDE COMPETITION FINALIST.I am pleased to be chosen as a finalist by the Hasselblad Masters Competion for 2008.I was also pleased to be a finalsit of ten for the Çonceptual series of submissions for Sony World Masters Photographic competition in 2009.Gregory Baker PORTUGAL February 2010.
